Augusts inspiration will come from the movie poster 'Holiday Inn'

Holiday Inn

For an extra 6 bonus points :)

1) Use music sheet pp on your page = 1 pt
2) Two tone title = 2 pts
3) Lets see some red and navy on your page = 3 pts

NOTE - From June we are now looking for individual entries for FS2S, you may combine your entry with a sketch but we no longer want entries that combine other challenges as we feel the ladies that do the right thing and take the time to enter independent entries are disadvantaged when it comes to winning prizes. If it means we lose a few entries, so be it!

The inlinkz post will go up shortly!

The Design Team have put together some great submissions,
so lots of inspiration to share with you all  :)

Entries for  'Holiday Inn will close
Sunday 28th August at midnight.

Looking forward to seeing some great entries this month :)

An extra submission from Dale Tiernan :)

Hi Shazza,

Here is the music teacher's card I told you I made. I decided to make it to fit the criteria of the current FS2S challenge, just cause I could. Thought it might be nice to show a card example.  I'm giving it Mark's ensemble Teacher for her efforts to get them ready for a music festival which was held on Saturday and was successful. She'll be getting some lovely flowers too.
Kind regards,
Dale

Holly's example for the 'Holiday Inn' inspirational poster and criteria.

Holly Connors - Fur Friends

Come and Meet our Movie Extra for the Month....

Holly Connors

Hello, I’m Holly and it’s a great honour to be a guest designer for From Screen to Scrap. I’m from Queensland, Australia and recently married my partner of 9 years, hence the many wedding themed layouts I have been creating lately. We share our home with two cats, Felix and Villain, who keep us busy until the day comes that we have children. I started scrapbooking a couple of years ago after a European holiday with some very flat, basic pages. It was not until I started blogging did I realize there was a whole new world of dimension and scrappy tools out there. My stash has since increased at an alarming rate. I get inspiration from my wonderful husband and family, with 9 niece and nephews. I scrapbook mostly every day, as its a good stress relief from my other life – working as a full time psychologist in a correctional centre. I also needed my own creative outlet, to keep me busy when my husband is off pursuing his own creative outlet as a guitarist for a band. However, he now tells me my hobby takes up far more time than his does! Oops! You can see more at my blog http://harmonydiy.blogspot.com

Here are some of Holly's Favourite creations........

Cherish

Laugh out Loud

Our Wedding Day

and

Smile

Thanks for joining us this month as our Movie Extra, Holly. We look forward to your comments on the entries and hope you have an enjoyable time. Please make Holly welcome at FS2S.

I love Natalie's take on this months inspiration.....

Natalie Elphinstone - Coconut Tree

Dear Shazza,

Another great challenge this month. I was inspired by the Holiday Inn poster to scrap some recent holiday photos of my own. Here are my two girls on the beach trying to pick coconuts! I've included some (admittedly subtle) red and navy highlights, the music paper is behind my journaling, and my two-toned title 'Coconut Tree' is yellow and orange which unfortunately blended together a little too well! So there's a funny story behind the title and journaling on this layout which you can read all about on my blog.

Here is Jennifers submission......

Jennifer Manis - H2o

Hi Shazza!  I just wanted to send in my layout for the Holiday Inn challenge.  I scrapped about the awesome Brad Paisley concert I recently went to!  :)  I used all the requirements on my page- the music sheet was perfect for my concert topic!  My page is titled, "H2O", the name of the tour.

Thanks!
Jen  :)

A great take on the challenge by Chantal....

Chantal Vandenberg - Way to GO!!!

Hello Shazza,

Please find attached my DT example for Holiday Inn.  I've all the criteria here -

1) Use music sheet pp on your page (I've used it in a rectangular form behind the first photo on the left, for the sun and for the grass) = 1 pt
2) Two tone title (My whole title is green and white) = 2 pts
3) Lets see some red and navy on your page (I've used these two colours with my patterned paper and in my embellishements) = 3 pts

I have also been influenced by the swirly lines that are on the poster, and I hand drew my own on my layout - they remind me of the lines on a running field. :)

Thanks for such a fun challenge this month!!!

Cheers,
Chantal

Here is Dales submission for August.....

Dale Tiernan - Wind Band 4

Hi Shazza,

Here is my layout for August. It's of my son's band for his High School. I've got the red and navy theme, 2 different music PPs and the two-toned title in red and navy. If anyone wants more details they can visit my blog: www.daleys-dailies.blogspot.com.

Kind regards,

Dale

Janes take on the monthly poster.....

Jane Howden - Here come the Drums

Hi Shazza,
I don’t recall seeing “Holiday Inn” but I no doubt have at some stage as my Mother was a keen musical lover and I would get roped into watching the Sunday afternoon matinees with her.  We would toe tap our way through the old movies of Fred, Bing, Debbie, Doris and Rock on a regular basis, much to my Dad’s disgust – he really wanted to watch the football!   I have covered all the criteria and must say I love working with navy and red - they are such versatile colours.
Thanks,
Jane

Here is Sandi's take on the 'Holiday Inn' movie poster this month.....

Graduand to Graduate

My Hubby graduated on 11th July & during the ceremony I kept thinking that the Dean was pronouncing the word 'Graduate' incorrectly...but when everyone did the same, I realised they were actually using a word I wasn't familiar with!!  So I googled it & discovered it was 'Graduand'...referring to the status of a graduate student who has completed his studies but not yet graduated in a formal ceremony'...see, you learn something new every day!!!! It seemed like a moment to document!!

As for the criteria...I loved the whole navy & red inspiration so printed my photo in B&W with a navy tint, matted it on red & used navy CS as my background! I cut two sets of the words 'Graguand' & 'Graduate' on my sillhouette in red & navy cardstock, sliced each in two, & paired them up again with their opposites to create a two-tone title! Lastly I used map PP to create the pleating around the journalling block & to cover the chipboard triangle for the bunting. The title was inspired by the map paper too...

Thanks for another fab challenge & I can't wait to see what everyone is going to do with this one!!!

Blessings

Sandi x

Next up with some great inspiration is....

Debi Clark - What Style!

Hi Shazza,

Here we are another month with a fabulous movie poster....
I just love the old posters the best!

So being that I have chosen a photo of my parents when
they were young in 1938, heading out to the races.
I really enjoyed scrapping this marvellous photo - it is
one of my favourites & titled it 'What Style!'.

I have added sheet music to my background paper, &
I have a black & red title, with touches of navy
(lace & cardstock) with some red organza flowers
& other embellishments with touches of red.

Cheers, Deb Clark

A great submission from Karen this month....

Karen Williams - Beach Baby

August- Beach Baby ( Holiday Inn)
I decided to go with a slightly subdued colour scheme for this one because the only music paper I have is cream- My new papers fitted perfectly with red ,navy and cream and I used an old photo from 2006 of Arthur on the beach- he was absolutely soaked to the skin but having such a great time I couldn't stop him ( he was about 15 months at the time)

I have all the requirements- music paper, red and navy and I made a two tone title by using different coloured letters instead of trying to make each letter two tone like the poster - Karen

Here is Mary Steinmetz's take on the 'Holiday Inn' poster....

Mary S - Antlers Inn

Here is Alanna submission for the month.......

Alanna Nielson - Grungy Card

Alanna has used this months inspiration to make this Grungy Card.......great for a boy!! - shazza

Dale Tiernan - Umbrella Birthday Card

Thanks Shazza.  Here is my submission for Ch #2. It's a birthday card. The inside reads "Come rain or shine I hope your birthday is fine." I wrote that to support the umbrella and mittens on the front.
Kind regards,
Dale

Nicole - June Bug

I have another for you, this time of my nephew's birthday which is 4 days after my husband's.  The blue and white pp I had didn't look right with these pictures so I had to settle for a blue background. I selected a white number sticker to add some white in anyway. I used a sticker featuring a bug carrying an umbrella. It's hard to see but it's next to the "Cute as a Bug!" sticker.
Thank you again for the inspiration!
XOXO

Jane Howden - Adventurous

I’m really pleased with this layout.  Have umbrella patterned paper and used blue glimmer mist on the white cardstock. I know it doesn’t look like an obvious birthday celebration but years ago, (after a number of days of very wet weather) I took my son for a playground play day with a couple of other little boys from his playgroup who were all celebrating birthdays that week.  He wasn’t the slightest bit interested in the cake or lollies or playing with the other kids – all he wanted to do was jump and splash in the puddles!  I’ve typed this story and it will go in a 6x12 protector along with other pictures of the day and will be placed next to the layout in the album. - Jane
********************************************
Sandi Robinson - A Very Damp Disney Birthday
For 'Children on their birthdays' I dug out some pics of Nathan on his third birthday. This birthday sprang to mind as soon as I saw the 'umbrella' criteria!  We took the boys to Disneyland Paris & it rained all day! But that didn't spoil the day at all, we just donned those iconic yellow rain capes & got on with it!! As for the criteria...Blue & White background - Check!...Child Celebrating Birthday - Check (to the max as you can tell, he crashed for a nap at one point!!)...& an Umbrella! - Check!! Thanks girls for a fun challenge & a chance to relive a very happy memory!!

Julene Matthews - 1234

Dear Shazza, Here's an entry for challenge 3. The polkadots certainly were obvious on this..I called it 1234 because Annabelle needed to count so she knew when to play her instrument.Love the look of concentration on her face!
The photo is straight on the page, the angle I took it is slightly skewed.
Happy birthday FS2S,  - Julene
************************************************

Chantal Vandenberg - 8 Candles

Hi Shazza,

Here is my layout inspired by Challenge No. 3's poster "13 Going on 30".  I think this poster is so cute!  I was inspired by the white background, the bubblegum bubble and dots, plus the general "cuteness" factor of it!
I've all the criteria here; Polka dots - 3 of the main pp's, some alphas and the fabric button have polka dots; My title has the number 8 in it; and I've made it very girly with pink, bling, froth and bubbles! :D
Thanks so much for such a fun challenge!
Cheers,
Chantal Vandenberg

Debi Clark - Fun 19 CARD

Hi Shazza,
I have chosen to make a card for this one, & used lovely paper with green &
pink dot, a bit of bling, frills, ribbon & a big number 19. It is always
great to have a card in the basket ready to use.
 Cheers, Debi

hi Shazza....here is a card i did for the challenge #3 for fs2s birthday..... '13 going on 30'poster................... ive got all the criteria....... polkadot pp(the cake), number in title and bubbles froth and bling..... got bling flourish up side of card, bubble wrap painted background for bubbles, and the alpha is quite frothy.......... - Amanda
*****************************************************************

Nicole - 30 going on 13

Hi Shazza!
What a cute movie poster to inspire us this month!  It just so happens I needed to scrap my husband's 30th birthday and I thought the movie title is almost perfect for him!  I used polka dotted patterned paper for the photo corners and I punched out our picture with a circle punch to mimic her bubble.
Happy Birthday FSTS!
XOXO
Nicole
****************************************************************
Lena Schreijenberg - Princess
Hi Shazza,
Hereby I send you my take on the challenge nr. 3/13 going 30.

I started with glueing pictures of all kind of girly things (flowers, perfume bottle, romantic bed, pictureframes, diamond rings a.s.o.) to the background.
Then I drew the face and started with the paint.... little paint on the face so you still can see the magazine images and lots of paint around the face, covering all the rest of the pictures.
The face is outlined with pastel crayon and the alpha's and numbers are sprayed with Glimmermist.
So I think that I've used all three criteria... Hope you will like it...??

  XOXO,
Lena Schreijenberg

Melody Rainbow - My Niece Melissa

Dale Tiernan - Pink ribbon Card
Hi Shazza,
I got busy and made this card for Ch#3 today. Such a cute poster. Plenty of pink and bling and some Basic Grey polka dot paper as well.
Regards,
Dale
*************************************************
Sandi Robinson - In the Pink at 50

For '13 going on 30'...well this was a real challenge for me!! I was fine with polka dots (big fave!)...I could even do the number title with no problem...but 'Make it Girly'...pink, frills, bling?!!! I have never been a girly-girl & am just not a pink person!! So, I rummaged through my stash to find 'pink' & lo & behold I had pink polka dot PP...result!! After that came pearls, pink gems, pink ribbon bows & several pink blooms....some pink foam alpha's I didn't even know I had!...I even printed off my photo in a pink tone! Is that girly enough for you!!! LOL!!! Thanks for getting me thinking 'outside of the box' girls...it was great fun!!
